Those arms will never cease to amaze me

I wrote on Sunday night about how UK, UConn, and Kansas’ targets in the class of 2010 are overlapping significantly. We all know that these are schools that will battle for many years to come on and off the court, and this is just the beginning.

In that article, I mentioned post target Adreian Payne:

Adreian Payne is a prospect that UK is heavily targeting. The main competition looks to be coming from Michigan State and West Virginia. Kansas was involved but does not appear to be in contention.

Maybe I spoke too soon.

Publically, Payne has a final 5 of Kentucky, West Virginia, Michigan State, Arizona, and Kansas, but it’s been widely speculated that UK, WVU, and MSU are the schools to beat.

However, The Shiver reports today that Kansas has set an in-home visit with Payne, complete with a quote from his coach saying “All of his list of five schools are even at this point.” Coach Art Winston also had some nice things to say about Bill Self and Kansas “sticking out” to his player, but I think we can chalk this up to the fact that he was talking to a Kansas publication.

This isn’t really concerning to me, because I still feel good about UK’s chances, but at the same time, you cannot count out Bill Self.

Another quick post-lunch note for a Tuesday that is moving all too slowly: Dustin Rumbaugh reports via Twitter that 2010 wing Stacey Poole will visit IU on September 18 and Lexington the day after, which also happens to be the day of the UK-UofL football game.  Poole is planning to make a commitment the following week and UK is the leader in the clubhouse.  We could be looking at UK’s first 2010 commit here.

**UPDATE**Evan Daniels of Scout.com is reporting that top point guard in the class of 2010, Brandon Knight, will visit also visit UK the weekend of the UofL game. This is big news for UK because they are getting him on campus before he makes the trip to Kansas for their Midnight Madness. Hopefully Coach Cal and company will wow him.
