2013 guard Dominique Hawkins has recently popped up on the radar of John Calipari and the UK staff. Former Kentucky Wildcat, Marquis Estill is a cousin of Hawkins’ and may have put a bug in the ear of the coaching staff to check out his little cousin. Estill is currently on Calipari’s staff as a graduate assistant. Hawkins is an undersized 2-guard at 6’0”, 175 lbs. and plays for Madison Central in Richmond (KY). The Indians won their first round matchup in the Sweet 16 boys basketball tournament. Hawkins lead Madison Central with 25 points in the 81-56 win over Wayne Co.
Orlando Antigua had been assigned to head down to Richmond to watch Hawkins in practice. In today’s Sweet 16 game, the full UK staff was there to watch him play. The interest is there, but it is yet to be seen whether a scholarship will be offered. Hawkins has said he will not accept a walk-on position. Kentucky could make him a preferred walk-on, and offer a scholarship on a year by year basis like they do with Jarrod Polson. After winning his game in the Sweet 16, Hawkins was spotted attending a Kentucky practice. Calipari & Co. seem serious about the possibilities of getting Hawkins in Lexington. Hawkins has offers from WKU, Morehead State, and Valpo. He has a walk-on offer from Louisville, and has drawn interest from UK, Tennessee, Purdue, and Alabama.Powered by Sidelines
