Eric Bledsoe close to qualifying and possibly leaning toward UK

Kevin Scarbinsky of the Birmingham News has a post up on his blog about Eric Bledsoe’s pending college decision. Bledsoe is set to announce whether he will attend UK or Memphis tomorrow at a press conference at his high school.

Scarbinsky says that Bledsoe did not tell his coach, Maurice Ford, but that he had made his decision already. However, Scarbinsky did say that he spoke with another person close to Bledsoe who has an idea about where he will head next year:

Another person familiar with Bledsoe’s thinking said he believes the No. 1 Birmingham News Super Senior has chosen Kentucky, but it’s important to remember two things about recruits and their college choices.

Another piece of interesting news is that Ford says that Bledsoe’s murky academic situation is “clearing up”, which is obviously great news for Bledsoe and whichever school he ends up choosing:

He said Bledsoe has scored a 17 on the ACT and has passed the Alabama High School Graduation Exam. Ford said Bledsoe has to make at least a B in a core-curriculum math course he’s taking now to reach the GPA he needs to be eligible as a college freshman next season.

“He’s on track,” Ford said. “This is the first time he’s been challenged academically. He knows what he has to do.”

Eric Bledsoe is a player that I would have been ecstatic to have starting at point guard next year before John Calipari arrived and John Wall entered the picture. He remains one of the top point guards in the class and I think he is going to be an excellent college player for 3-4 years whether Wall comes or not.
