Bring John Calipari to UK Facebook Group

If you are offended by Facebook reporting, stop reading, because I’m taking my first jump into it.
There is a Facebook group called “Bring John Calipari to UK”. On it’s own this really should be no surprise…people form Facebook groups for just about anything. The reason, though, that this is interesting, has to do with the membership of this group (which is up to nearly 12,000 at last check).

Take a look at it yourself to confirm, but the names included are UK players: Jodie Meeks, Patrick Patterson, Ramon Harris, Perry Stevenson, and Matt Pilgrim.
It includes current UK commitments: Daniel Orton, KC Ross-Miller, Konner Tucker, Dominique Ferguson.
Perhaps most interestingly, it includes A LOT of 2009 kids who are either unsigned or Memphis commits: John Wall, Eric Bledsoe, Xavier Henry, and DeMarcus Cousins.
Folks, even if half of these names are impersonators, this certainly bears watching: so much so that I venture to break out the go-to cliche for any UK coaching search-”where there’s smoke, there’s fire”. I’m definitely tempering my expectations, because we’ve been burned before, but this is fun to think about.

UK would get back to being a national contender, but doesn’t the stigma surrounding Calipari’s past NCAA troubles scare you considering UK’s past problems. This looks like a perfect marriage…or a perfect storm. Priority number 1 if bringing in Cal needs to be a clean program and extremely transparent. If they can do that, bring him in right now!
I’m not going to lie, it does scare me a bit. It’s on UK to complete due diligence to ensure that they believe the program will be squeaky clean under Calipari, because you know people (ie Dan Wetzel) are going to be looking for a slip up. I’m also hearing that things may not go down as quickly as I originally thought…it may stretch into the Thursday/Friday range rather than Monday/Tuesday as I had previously thought (well, hoped).
