Billy Gillispie – Candidate at DePaul?

I know I’ve wondered about what Billy Gillispie’s future in basketball will be. For a while, I thought there was no chance that any BCS conference school would take a chance on him. It looks like I may have been wrong.

The CBS affiliate in Chicago is reporting that the DePaul Blue Demons are interested in Billy G for their head coaching spot. Former coach Jerry Wainwright was fired this year and former Billy Gillispie and UK assistant Tracy Webster is currently the interim coach.

Mike North, the source reporting the interest, points out that DePaul would be able to sign Gillispie to a relatively cheap contract due to the fact that he just wants to get back into coaching. Gillispie has had success everywhere he had been (except UK), turning around basketball programs that have far less access to talent than the Chicago-located Blue Demons.

I’m going to make a wild guess and say Gillispie does NOT send his potential employers to Mitch Barnhart for a reference.
