December 9, 2006 – Kentucky 59, Indiana 54
Kentucky and Indiana both entered their 2006 battle unranked in the Top 25 for the first time since 1988 (as they will this year). It also marked the first time that Kentucky had played Indiana on their home floor since 1988. The previous seven times that the Cats wore white against the Hoosiers the game took place at Freedom Hall. The game also marked Kelvin Sampson’s debut in the UK-IU rivalry. How did that end up working out?
With less than two minutes to go, Joey Shaw of the Hoosiers stole an inbounds pass and scored to make it a one-possession game. But Indiana’s Lance Stemler missed a closely guarded 3-pointer, and Jodie Meeks made two free throws with six seconds left to clinch the win.
Bobby Perry led the Cats in a physical win over the Hoosiers with a kinda triple-double (11pts, 10rebs, 12stitches), as he was forced to leave the game late with a gash above his eyebrow. Randolph Morris finished with 16 and 10 while the Hoosiers were led by D.J. White who had 23 and 9.
