The 12 funniest faces of the 2012 Olympics

The Olympics are sport’s greatest triumph. The event brings together the passion, dedication, and pageantry of athleticism. Competition is distilled into its purest form, and the participants give their hearts and souls to be a part of it. Images can’t even capture the pure will and devotion of the athletes involved.

But they sure as hell can capture some ludicrous faces along the way. These photos are sport’s real greatest triumph.

12. The Queen

The Queen’s funny face started it all. Her absolute lack of interest in the Olympics ceremony tranquilized a nation of apathetic Brits and created a hilarious meme along the way.

11. The Sleeper Hold

It’s really unfortunate when you fall asleep during your big moment. Fortunately, she was able to sleep-lift her way to gold.

10. The Geezer Neck

This guy looks 30 above the jaw and 87 below it. Does Botox make you better at table tennis? If so, I’m surprised this lady didn’t take all three medals.

9. The Dentist

I can’t even open my mouth like that when the dentist has clamps, levers, pulleys, and a crowbar. But somehow this British grandmother sneaked her way into the Olympics to showcase her giant cavity and bonnet.

8. The Hey-Wait-a-Minute

Well, it could be funny. You never know. I like to give athletes the benefit of the doubt.

7. The Floater

I’m an amateur ping pong player myself, and this is one of my favorite moves. By storing the ball in your hair, you can confuse your opponent and look ridiculous on national TV.

6. The Biter

There’s a new event at the Olympics this year, and the goal is to bite through a huge metal bar. Maybe number nine from my list back there should focus on this new event instead of water polo.

5. The Quasimodo

It’s a little known fact that Quasimodo actually entered the Olympics this year for the United States. As Notre Dame’s most qualified swimmer, his naturally humped back has earned him the affectionate nickname “the whale”.

4. The Kamikaze

Pretty much any diving photo could make its way onto the list, but there’s something particularly majestic and comical about this fellow’s dive-bombing.

3. The Crier

You might think this guy is a swimmer considering how wet he is. All that water is actually just from his tears. And the most interesting part of all? He won gold.

2. The Shining

All play and no work makes this guy one scary dude. If they ever remake The Shining, I know who to cast in Jack Nicholson’s role.

1. The Your-Face-is-Going-to-Get-Stuck-That-Way

Mothers around the world have warned for generations that making ugly faces will result in a permanently hideous visage. Apparently this guy ignored that advice.

I just can’t believe we have to wait another four years for incredible images like these. The 16 funniest faces of the 2016 Olympics can’t get here soon enough.

Due to the overwhelming success of “The 12 funniest faces of the 2012 Olympics”, I’ve decided to take a look at 12 more funny faces from the Olympic games in London. Hopefully the lively discussion and comments will continue, as we take another totally sarcastic look at sport’s greatest heroes in some of their more awkward moments.

Once more into the breach, dear friends!

What’s funny about this whole thing is, it takes a racist to spot a racist. I didn’t think once about being mostly Asians until I read the comments. For those of you that think it’s racist, and assuming it’s a white person, look at yourself in the mirror first, oh and GET A LIFE!!

  2. Yan August 9, 2012 at 2:28 pm #

Seriously, what is so funny? my god U.S is full of Sh*t and arrogant. whoever posted this really needs to get educated.

  3. Jay K Chung August 9, 2012 at 2:30 pm #

Even if we showed these incredible pictures to the queen that ranked #12 here, I bet she will still make the very same facial expression, which shows no interest for anything at all.

of all the funniest faces and you prefer to show three quarters of them ASIAN?

What in the world happened to you to make this sad and hateful a racist?

  5. Diane August 10, 2012 at 4:06 am #

What difference does it make who the photos are of?? I for one don’t think the photos are funny…they are concentrating on what they are doing..there were black american women making comments about the young (american) black gymnists’ hair…her ponytail..they thought she should of done her hair before doing her exercise??? I think THATS rediculous!!! they found it aweful she didn’t put more effort into her hair?? come on people. It’s not just americans…it’s everywhere

What ever happened to just laughing at something? Why does the race card have to be thrown all the time, everytime. Not everything has racist overtones to it. Is your life so boring and miserable that you have to work and search at making things into more than they really are. Even if you don’t think it is funny, at least have the intelligence to understand what it is and what it is not.

  7. Terry August 10, 2012 at 5:29 am #

Thank you spongebillybob for putting this is perspective!!!! Some live to throw in the race card wherever and whenever they can just to show how much of a racist they truly are. Again Thanks sponge!!

  8. Candy August 10, 2012 at 6:18 am #

Hello all you Politically Correct people, MOST of the people in the Olympics are Asian are part Asian. Get a life and laugh a little!

  9. audrey August 10, 2012 at 6:18 am #

yo people, chill out with the racist crap. this is just for fun. i don’t think it meant to single out a specific race. admit it. the faces are funny.

  10. Sariel Adeipo August 10, 2012 at 6:22 am #

All of these comments about being racist…. I just think it’s funny that there are so many “We all hate Americans” right along with them. Hrm… I have one thing to say. It’s a joke. Grow up. Don’t get so offended so easily, and relax a littlebit.*wink*

  11. JennieD August 10, 2012 at 6:29 am #

Um mostly Asian????? really? I went back and looked. 12 pictures. 6 not Asian. they are kind of amusing shots. I mean if you were the person in the pic you would probably have chosen not to have these particular pics shared because they are certainly unflattering. Number 1 and 7 are the only ones i found “funny”. The one of the queen to me just shows a lady who never loses her composure. Good for her.

  12. Pinchez August 10, 2012 at 6:56 am #

OK screw all these nonsensical comments!!! I think you people are way too sensitive. THIS SHIT IS FUNNY!!!!!!!!

  13. Longlegs August 10, 2012 at 6:59 am #

I am sick and tired of hearing about ‘the race card’! It’s hateful in and of itself to constantly be discussed by those that think they’ve been short-changed. The Olympics are especially about coming together and sharing talented, driven humans that want to excel at their chosen sport. They’ve worked so darn hard for a few minutes in the spot light. Why do these narrow minded people have to try to ruin the glory moment for them by discussing race – once again!? The photos are just interesting and funny. The photographer is talented. Period. End of discussion.

  14. Stephen Bene August 10, 2012 at 7:27 am #

Absolutely hilarious photos! If you think there’s anything racist about these photos then you need to get a grip. First of all 1/7th of the worlds population comes from 1 (China) Asian country which means that there’s a really good chance that there would be alot of photos of just Chinese people. Once you throw in all the other Asian countries your looking at about 1/4 to 1/3 of the world’s population is Asian. SO, is this racist or just a depiction of how life REALLY is everywhere elase in the EXCEPT America! Get a life people and stop looking for reasons to hate.

  15. kevin August 10, 2012 at 7:35 am #

7 out of 12 photos were of asians im suprised this this article made the cut in todays pc environment

  16. teacher annie August 10, 2012 at 8:26 am #

I am so tired of being “hated” by people in other countries just because I live in the USA. News flash, I don’t hold the actions of a few against the whole population of any country. If that were the case, I would have to hate entire populations of several countries. I am intelligent enough to know that some people who “represent” a country (sports figures, entertainers, politicians, other self-professed celebrities) do NOT represent who I am, nor do they represent most of the people I know. Enough already with the “ugly fat American” comments. And while I’m venting, I certainly do not appreciate the “I’m renting my flat to a fat American family” tote bags. Certainly people from other countries are renting places while in England? Why no “fat Frenchmen” tote bags?

  17. MelBelle August 10, 2012 at 8:39 am #

Maybe the pictures wouldn’t be of Asian’s if they 1) didn’t make funny faces 2) didn’t qualify for the olympics and compete in most of the events.
The pictures are funny faces…everyone makes funny faces when they are being active, that’s why those roller coaster pictures are so funny. It has nothing to do with race, it just so happens that many Asian athletes competed, and that their events were captured on TV.

  18. Hugo August 10, 2012 at 8:53 am #

The only one that made me laugh was the queen, right off the bat.

  19. Rae August 10, 2012 at 9:17 am #

I don’t think the Queen wanted to be there…

  20. Sher August 10, 2012 at 9:25 am #

I came upon this article while having coffee this morning and am feeling pretty sad after reading all of the very disturbing comments. I wouldn’t be so bothered by a discussion on how these photos might be perceived, however, the hate being spewed is a real disappointment.

  21. blueman August 10, 2012 at 9:57 am #

Im asian and yes, i find this hilarious and downright funny. all this race crap….just good ol’ plain BS. loosen up people and laugh a little. im sure you could use it. ever hear a weightlifter pass gas while lifting? yeah? now you have a picture of a face to go with it… is that a smile i see?

  22. Jessica August 10, 2012 at 10:26 am #

what a dumb article! The writer does not realize that these are activites that take an incredible amount of mental and physical fortitude? Why make fun of them? I would like to see the author doing any of these. Punk!

  23. Granny August 10, 2012 at 10:32 am #

I am so stunned at the stupidity and ignorance of people. I think they are funny. If you don’t like the pics then don’t look! SHUT UP MORONS!

  24. Spanglish August 10, 2012 at 10:42 am #

Belly belly faa knee pho toes

  25. jj August 10, 2012 at 11:22 am #

Hey. I think you all have an ugly face. lol

  26. Victoria August 10, 2012 at 12:03 pm #

Reading all the comments made me laugh more than pictures themselves.

  27. Liam August 10, 2012 at 1:20 pm #

Jessica, the writer is not making fun of them, OK? He is simply trying to put a little humor into the amazing things these athletes do. He understands the skill required by them, he just wants to shed a little humorous light on the athletes.

  28. Adam August 10, 2012 at 4:54 pm #

I love America the greatest country ever! So keep hating us….cause we could care less about you…Life is good

First of all, this really isn’t that funny, except for the queen! The race issue is bullshit! This years entire olympics has gone to shit with all the poor behavior, bad judging, biased news coverage, lack of sportsmanship, cheating, inconsistent rules on and on. It’s been much like politics and soap boxes. Out of control and over dramatic. The final results (winners and losers) would be far different if the games were held to a higher standard with no tolerence for those items just mentioned. I don’t know, perhaps this is what the people want to see, and we all know it all boils down to money and pride at some point.

  31. PoorMe August 24, 2012 at 7:21 am #

Give me a break. Quit crying racism. It just happened to be that Asians made the funniest faces, as evidenced by these pictures. Stop the racism act, seriously!

  32. google July 30, 2014 at 11:56 am #

A site that isn’t indexed much by Google or doesn’t
turn up until page 1,993,990 on a Google search for its kind is WORTHLESS
to you. While this is better than not driving traffic to anything of yours,
it is ineffective when compred to driving traffic to a location-specific landing page with a strong offer
and several convenient methods of contacting the clinic.
In short they gave me all the information I needed to know to generate my sales strategy for the coming year.
