I think we have a new College Football King of Names: Nick Toon

So I was watching the Fresno State-Wisconsin game on Saturday. It was the first time I have watched Wisconsin a while, and I only watched because Big 10 was pretty much the only conference playing, other than Florida’s weekly shellacking of some poor opponent.

I saw some generic looking athletic wide receiver make a catch. He looked like a nice player, but nothing really too special…until ESPN flashed his name on the bottom of the screen:

I am a child of the the mid-80′s, so I grew up during the early 1990′s, and Nickelodeon, specifically Nicktoons, was a big part of my life.

I’m not sure if you could find a bigger fan of Doug anywhere. I have the Doug theme song on my iTunes and I have always said that Porkchop will be one of my first choices for names when I get my first dog.

Back in the day, when Rugrats and Doug used to be on back to back, you could pretty much write off me doing anything else but watch TV during that hour.

In short, Nicktoons were awesome (and I know they are still making “Nicktoons”, but no one will ever convince me that SpongeBob belongs in the same category as Doug). When I found out that there was a Wisconsin redshirt sophomore wide receiver named Nick Toon, year, I got excited.

This begs the question, which was your favorite of the first 4 (and only legitimate) Nicktoons.

How can you argue against a show with a main character named Doug Funnie who has alter egos like Quail Man and Jack Bandit? Besides, Quailman is a great go-to Halloween costume to start conversation.  

Rugrats

Tommy Pickles was one of the stranger looking babies you’ll ever see, but I can only hope my kid carries around a full set of tools around in his diaper…and yes, I just now realized that it was strange that Tommy always pulled tools out of his diaper.

Also, how much did you hate that brat, Angelica?

Ren and Stimpy

For some reason, I was just never a big fan of Ren and Stimpy, but who doesn’t like “Happy Happy Joy Joy”?

Rocko’s Modern Life

This show was the edgy one among the Nicktoons. It always had something that would make your mom tell you to change the channel, but you would change right back when she wasn’t paying attention.

Watching this makes you realize that why your mom wanted you to change the channel.
