J.J. Redick Releasing Rap Album

By: Guy | October 29th, 2009 | Category: Hilariousness - Sports

You can’t make this stuff up. J.J. Redick is releasing a rap album.

If Vegas were laying odds on the genre of JJ Redick’s first album, what kind of odds do you think you could have gotten a couple years ago for “rap”??? 50-1, 100-1, 1000-1. Smooth jazz would have been the favorite at probably 5-2, with “JJ Redick sings Michael McDonald’s hits” in a close second at 4-1, but I know that would not have bet on rap.

Lo and behold, one of college basketball’s most reviled, and whitest, figures has decided that a hip-hop album is a good career move. Perhaps the best part of this bonanza of unintentional comedy is the fact that JJ Redick is now a part of a self-proclaimed “rap supergroup”.

It’s tough that UK lost out on Adreian Payne, but this made my day.

Orlando Magic shooting guard J.J. Redick will soon become the latest basketball player with his own unnamed rap group.

According to Redick, he’s part of a “rap super group” that will release a new single before the end of the year titled “Waste Management.”

“We’re working on a rap CD,” Redick revealed. “We actually haven’t come up with a name from the group, we’re throwing around some ideas right now.”

Redick listed a number of potential names for his new rap crew, including Sub-par, Afterthought and No-“Profits.”

“The chorus has been written and the first verse and the direction we’re heading on the song has to deal with ‘waste management,’” Redick elaborated. “We’re not taking ourselves to seriously. We have some influences, and when you hear our sound eventually, you’ll pick up right away.”

Redick said he was hoping to have the single released virally and that the track could be released before the end of 2009.

“We’re hoping the single drops before the new year, but we have a pretty full time job, so we don’t have a whole lot of time to work on a rap album right now,” Redick said.

Other NBA players who have released rap albums include Ron Artest, Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal.

This is awesome. Does J.J. stand for Jazzy Jeff?

  2. I’ve got gas

  3. I think he’s going in the direction my friend Gay-Z and I went in. Some of our freestyles and our original soung can be found on iPhoneRaps.com. white folks can’t rap about struggles and be taken seriously. I grew up on welfare in New Orleans and was 1 of 3 white people in my school but that’s not even enough so we have to go the silly route. We used to have a popular site, ReachAroundPosse.com, until I forgot to renew it and lost it. we have a popular song on youtube called “White Button thugs”. I say, if he enjoys rhyming, he should be able to do whatever the hell he wants. Some people will probably like it.

  4. You do realize he was joking with the reporters.
