North Carolina crowned Miss USA 2009

Tonight in Las Vegas, the 2009 Miss USA pageant was held and Kristen Dalton, Miss North Carolina was crowned as the new Miss USA.  On Friday we brought you all 51 contestants and I laid out my predictions: Rhode Island, Vermont, Kentucky, Texas, Connecticut.

Hosts Billy Bush and Nadine Velasquez (Earl’s Catalina) informed us that before the show there was a preliminary contest where some idiots picked the 15 semi-finalists, leaving out my top two picks Rhode Island and Vermont.  The Top 15 were:  Kentucky, Arkansas, California, West Virginia, North Carolina, Connecticut, Tennessee, Idaho, Arizona, Georgia, Utah, Minnesota, Texas, South Carolina, Virginia.

The judges who would decide this year’s winners were: Kelly Monaco, Keenan Thompson, Claudia Jordan, Brian Graden, Holly Madison, John Miller, Alicia Jacobs, Perez Hilton, Shandi Finnessey (Miss USA 2004), Eric Trump, Willie Geist, and Robert Earl.

Miss Kentucky finished fourth in the swimsuit competition pulling an average score of 8.976 among the 12 judges.

The judges then named the 10 finalists:  Arizona, California, South Carolina, Kentucky, Utah, North Carolina, Arkansas, Texas, West Virginia and Tennessee.

The evening gown competition followed, with Miss Kentucky pulling a score of 9.047, good for 4th place again.

Miss Wyoming Cynthia Pate, NOT Sandra Bullock, was awarded Miss Congeniality.  West Virginia’s Jessi Pierson was awarded Miss Photogenic and rightfully so…uh, yump!

Next it was time to narrow the field to the Top 5:  North Carolina, Arizona, Utah, California and Kentucky!!!

On to the interviews:  North Carolina got a political question, which she democratically answered.  Arizona was asked about universal health care, and completely did not answer the question.  Utah was asked about money being spent on Afghanistan’s elections, to which she gave an absolute yes answer to.  California was asked about same-sex marriage, she gave an answer that disappointed Perez Hilton, and no doubt would hurt her in the scoring.  Kentucky was asked about domestic violence, to which she gave a well versed answer.

On to the winners:

4th runner up:  Kentucky.
3rd runner up: Utah.
2nd runner up: Arizona.
1st runner up: California
Miss USA 2009: North Carolina, Kristen Dalton.
