Video: CBS introduces referees prior to Bengals-Jaguars game
Everyone should be excited that the real referees are back in the NFL. Not only were the replacements scabs, but to fault not entirely their own, they really questioned the integrity of the NFL and their commissioner Roger Gooddell.
On Thursday night the real refs returned and prior to the Bengals-Jaguars game at 4 p.m. EST, CBS decided it necessary to give them a real return. In fact, they gave them an intro much like you see for the starting offenses and defenses every game.
Prior to the lockout, veteran referee Ed Hochuli was a bit of a rock star. More for his mammoth guns than his calls on the field. It is said that he works out like a beast. When the lockout ended, Hochuli and the rest of his crew returned to ovations from the crowd and sighs of relief from players and coaches.
I get it, it’s a big deal. But, do I really need to know that Mark Hittner, the head linesman, attended Pittsburgh State University. Is Pitt State like the pipeline to get into NFL officiating?
Look, I am glad that the refs are back and that we can all start talking football again instead of the refs. But, the referee introduction thing has to be the goofiest damn thing I’ve ever seen in my life. They are paid to call the game and to be as invisible as possible, not be the show. You made them the show.
