On Paper
Johan Santana’s No Hitter
Finally, we no longer have to hear about the New York Mets not having a no-hitter thanks to Santana’s performance on Friday night. The Mets beat the Cardinals 8-0, as Santana also pitched his first career no-hitter. Johan’s career has been full of ups and downs from his amazing start in Minnesota down to his nagging injuries. He had an amazing career as a Twin, including 2 Cy Young Awards (04,06), multiple all-star selections, and led the league in strikeouts and ERA several times. Yet, his time as an overpaid Met (24 million in 2012) has been riddled with injury with glimpses of greatness scattered in. This no hitter is something that you would guaranteed would happen during his career in 2004 but we have really forgotten about the brilliance of Santana.

Upset Potential
SEC/Big East Challenge
A look at the schedule begs the question: Why can’t Saturday’s games be flipped with Thursday’s? The marquee match-ups during this year’s challenge are on opening night between the Marquette-Florida and UK-ND games. Thus, the hated 9pm middle of the week start time will once again be missing a large part of the working segment audience, way to go ESPN! The challenge started out as a good idea with just 4 teams from each conference taking part. Yet, with continued lack of depth in the SEC, the conferences needed to make sure UK, UF, and the yearly upstart (vandy, mizzou, msu) took part so they had to make it a 12 game challenge. I like the occasional big-time mathcups these type of conference challenges bring but are we really doing the world a favor with some of these awful teams clogging up valuable tv time?

Don’t Bother
Tiger Woods
Dear World, Yes Tiger is in contention going into Saturday of the Memorial…and Yes the media will talk about it, so instead of hating it, fans of Scott Stalling and Spencer Levin should be happy these players will get some tv and espn time!
