The saga that is Dwight Howard has run it’s course with me. At some point the teams of the NBA have to decide enough is enough.
The situation that Howard finds himself is 100% his fault. Last year when these trade talks were catching fire he made a decision that has created this entire mess. He decided to sign a one year extension with the team he so despises and wants to escape from! This action should have squashed all rumors and possibilities that Howard wanted to leave last year, much less this year. Yet, the reports never ceased and this has been the summer of Too Much Howard.
The Brooklyn Nets have found themselves resigning Brook Lopez due to the inaction by the Magic. They decided that the headache that is Howard and Orlando were no longer worth waiting for. The Magic are now waiting on the Lakers and Rockets to build offers that they find acceptable. The Lakers have nothing to give, Bynum is not a replacement. The Rockets are throwing around all sorts of options including players, draft picks, and cash. Yet, for some reason, the Magic are not willing to make a move. I guess they are willing to have an unhappy Howard, coming off back surgery, in their jersey next year. The pundits say the Magic don’t want to give him up for nothing, but what’s the point of owning a ferrari that doesn’t want to leave the garage?
We have ended up with a top 10 player, today, that doesn’t want to play for the team that he just signed an extension with and a team that doesn’t really want to trade him. Dwight Howard is a nice player who has the ability to change a game on the defensive end but will his attitude become truly offensive?
