Louisville has 1.4 million in its metro area, which is larger than New Orleans (1.2 mil), Buffalo (1.2 mil), Oklahoma City (1.3 mil), Memphis (1.3 mil), and Green Bay (306,000).
Louisville has 597,000 only because it is a city-county. It had been a declining city before 2003, when it became a city-county.

I also graduated from Ballard High School in 2010 in Louisville, so it is nice to read this from a fellow alumni. I am writing a paper about the Kings franchise moving to Louisville, how viable is this option or is it just speculation and some fun rumor going around? I liked your research, I think I will use it in my paper! Thank you

The presence of these franchises can be very valuable, but it is generally in terms of perceived value as opposed to tangible value. They can also improve civic pride and quality of life.

It is sad to see Louisville’s decline in relation to other metro areas over the past 30 years and see former peer cities land franchises while Louisville cannot.
