American Hero Curtiss Shaver Awarded Naming Rights To NASCAR’s Brickyard 400
Strait Pinkie is heading up I-65 to Indianapolis with Crown Royal to be a part of the “Curtiss Shaver 400 at The Brickyard powered by Big MachineRecords.com” this weekend. This will be my first experience at a NASCAR race and for the Brickyard to be the backdrop makes it very special. America is full of heroes, whether they are police officers, military personnel, fire fighters, or teachers, there are so many that go unrecognized. Crown Royal and the Brickyard 400 are changing that this weekend. Curtiss Shaver has been awarded the naming rights of the event because of his heroism. Shaver was saved from a horrible farming accident that took part of his leg. Instead of simply thanking the local firemen for doing their job, Curtiss changed his career and joined the Troy Fire Department.
The Curtiss Shaver 400 marks the sixth time that Crown Royal has awarded the naming rights to an unsung hero. Each year, the Canadian Whiskey company holds a competition to honor a particular type of American hero. This year, the program focused on unsung heroes who made a difference in their communities such as firemen, volunteers, and first responders. People then visited Crown Royal’s Facebook Page and voted on who they thought was more deserving of the award.

So, the Strait Pinkie crew will be in Indy for the entire weekend. We’ll be watching the race, enjoying good country music, and of course drinking responsibly. Our competitive nature will also be unveiled as we will be a part of a four-team scavenger hunt that features 12 of the biggest and brightest websites across the country. We are still unsure how StraitPinkie.com has been included with these up-and-coming websites.
We will also be doing the Sunday Morning Hangover with StraitPinkie.com live from the Brickyard this Sunday from 10 a.m. to noon on ESPN 680, ESPNLouisville.com, and the new ESPN Radio phone app for iPhone and Android. Follow us on Facebook and Twitter for updates throughout the weekend.
It should be a blast and we thank Crown Royal for allowing us to be involved with this tremendous event.
