Barbaro, who entered the Derby undefeated, runs away from the pack, to win the 132nd Kentucky Derby. One of the most iconic horses of all-time, Barbaro had the entire nation watching closely after his injury at the Preakness. The sports world was staggered by his eventual passing and in honor of his memory, Churchill Downs recently unveiled a statue of the Derby winner.

2007 Kentucky Derby – Street Sense

At the 1/2 mile-marker, Street Sense is 19th of 20 horses. But, Calvin Borel gets him to hit his stride to beat Hard Spun to the line by three links and win the 133rd Kentucky Derby.

2008 Kentucky Derby – Big Brown

Big Brown dominates the field to win the 134th Kentucky Derby for controversial trainer Rick Dutrow. Unfortunately, this Derby will also be remembered for the filly, Eight Belles, who finished second and was later euphanized after suffering injuiry.

2009 Kentucky Derby – Mine That Bird

In the second biggest upset in Kentucky Derby history (Donerail, 1913), 50-1 longshot Mine That Bird, with Calvin Borel aboard, came from last to first to win the 135th running before an announced crowd of 153,563 at Churchill Downs.

2010 Kentucky Derby – Super Saver

Calvin Bo-Rail does it again…this time on Super Saver.

Monarchos runs the second-fastest Kentucky Derby in history to claim the Roses, at 1:59.97, and becomes only the second horse in Kentucky Derby history to finish under two minutes. Secretariat, the Greatest Horse of All-Time, finished at 1:59.40.

2002 Kentucky Derby – War Emblem

War Emblem goes wire-to-wire, and finds another gear late, to win the 128th Kentucky Derby and give Bob Baffert his third Kentucky Derby victory.

2003 Kentucky Derby – Funny Cide

In the 129th Run for the Roses, Funny Cide, at 12-1, hangs on to win the Kentucky Derby.

2004 Kentucky Derby – Smarty Jones

Smarty Jones wins the 130th Kentucky Derby on one of the sloppiest tracks in history. He becomes the first undefeated horse to win the Derby since Seattle Slew in 1977. Stewart Elliot also wins his first Derby at the age of 39. The poor track conditions make this the slowest Kentucky Derby (1:04.06) since 1958 when Tim Tam won in 2:05.00.

2005 Kentucky Derby – Giacomo

Giacomo comes from the back of the pack to win the 131st Kentucky Derby in a three-way photo finish with Closing Argument and Afleet Alex.

Grindstone, whose name hadn’t been called the entire race, with Jerry Bailey aboard, makes a late run to surpass Unbridled’s Song and win the Roses. The win gave D. Wayne Lukas back-to-back Kentucky Derby’s and his third overall.

1997 Kentucky Derby – Silver Charm

Silver Charm barely holds off Captain Bogdit in the 1997 Kentucky Derby, giving Gary Stevens his second derby in three years. It also gave Bob Baffert his first Derby win.

1998 Kentucky Derby – Real Quiet

Bob Baffert makes it two-in-a-row, this time with Real Quiet.

1999 Kentucky Derby – Charismatic

For the second time in three years, the same silks win the Derby as Charismatic and Chris Antley give Bob & Beverly Lewis their second Run For The Roses victory. The previous Lewis winner was Silver Charm, trained by Bob Bafferty. Charismatic is trained by D. Wayne Lukas, giving him his fourth Kentucky Derby win.

2000 Kentucky Derby – Fusaichi Pegasus

Fusaichi Pegasus ends the “20-Year Favorite Jinx” and claims the roses with Kent Desormeaux aboard. Desormeaux wins his second Derby in three years, he also rode Real Quiet in 1998.

In the 116th Kentucky Derby, Unbridled runs away from Summer Squall and the rest of the pack to claim the Roses.

1991 Kentucky Derby – Strike The Gold

Strike The Gold takes the Roses by a length-and-a-half over Best Pal in the 117th Kentucky Derby.

1992 Kentucky Derby – Lil E Tee

Lil E Tee gives Pat Day his one and only Kentucky Derby win by a length over Casual Lies in the 118th Run for the Roses.

1993 Kentucky Derby – Sea Hero

Sea Hero takes the inside and runs away with the Roses in the 119th Kentucky Derby.

1994 Kentucky Derby – Go For Gin

Go For Gin goes wire to wire in the mud and hangs on in the 120th Running for the Roses, giving Nick Zito his second Kentucky Derby win. He also won with Strike The Gold in 1991.

1995 Kentucky Derby – Thunder Gulch

Thunder Gulch with Gary Stevens aboard pulls away to win the 121st Kentucky Derby. It was the second ever Derby win for trainer D. Wayne Lukas, who also won it in 1988 with the filly, Winning Colors.

On May 1st, 2010 in Louisville, Kentucky, the win of Trainer Todd Pletcher exemplified the American spirit, while the eyes of the world watched as Kentucky Derby goers zealously put on a world fashion show. $162.7 Million dollars flowed through Churchill Downs on Kentucky Derby Day and fashion and friendship was just as rich. When my date told me that her mother was customizing her “Kentucky Derby Hat”…I knew that Kentucky Derby 136 was going to be about style. Tom Brady, Barry Bonds, Terrell Owens, Terrance Williams, Warren Moon and The Real Housewives of New Jersey brought celebrity fashion to the Kentucky Derby but, it was the patrons who produced the stylistic eye-candy for the world to see.

Calvin Borel aboard Super Saver won the 136th Run for the Roses, giving trainer Todd Pletcher his first Kentucky Derby win.

For the win, Super Saver paid $18.00, $8.80 and $6.00. Ice Box paid $11.20 and $8.00 and Paddy O’Prado returned $7.40 to show.

General Quarters paid $19.60, $8.40 and $5.20. Court Vision paid $4.40 and $3.20, and Loup Breton returned $3.40.
