Jeremy Sharfe, aka Buddy Bat, to Release Debut Album Tonight!

By: nickev | February 19th, 2010 | Category: Music

You heard me right, it is going down TONIGHT! Jeremy Sharfe, aka Buddy Bat, will be releasing his debut album, “Drink a Song or Two”, TONIGHT at 8pm at the Wick’s on Dixie Highway. Don’t be scared to drive out to the highway. I promise it’s not as far as you nutcases think!

So, Squad Up Louisville and support one of the most unstoppable humans to roam the streets of the Derby City. It’s Jeremy Sharfe. It’s live music. It’s pizza. It’s beer. It’s StraitPinkie.com. We’ll be handing out a few t-shirts and beer koozies to go along with the festivities. Let’s Go!

Now to the professional press release that I wrote a couple of days ago.

Jeremy Sharfe, who performs as Buddy Bat at nearly all of the Louisville Bats home games, is also an accomplished musician. He is scheduled to release his debut solo album on Friday, February 19th, at Wick’s Pizza Parlor on Dixie Highway. The album, entitled “Drink a Song or Two”, contains seven tracks, including six originals and one harmonica instrumental.

He will play from 9:00 to 9:45, but the party is scheduled to go strong from 8pm until 11pm. There is no cover charge if you show up before 10pm.

SharfeBuddy

His music career began as a lead singer for a country/rock band known as Spanky Nyne. It was during those years that he developed his energetic stage presence. A singer, songwriter, and musician, he has performed countless shows throughout Kentucky and Indiana since 1999. He plays multiple instruments, including the guitar, piano, trumpet, mandolin and ukulele, but his specialty is the harmonica.

Sharfe, 31, has had the privilege of playing harmonica in Nashville with Grammy winner Stacy Mitchhart and Tim Krekel, as well as opening for Tracy Lawrence, Trick Pony, The Kentucky Headhunters, and Joan Jett and the Black Hearts.

In addition to his music and his time spent performing as Buddy Bat, he also has a full-time job instructing at-risk students in the Jefferson County High School alternative program at his alma mater, Doss High School.

Last April, to kick off the Louisville Bats’ 2009 season, he was featured in the Courier-Journal in an article entitled, “Being Buddy Bat: Jeremy Sharfe is a Mascot and More”. The article, written by Ken Neuhauser, showcased his many talents and the hectic schedule that followed suit.

At the release party he will perform tracks from, “Drink a Song or Two”. CD’s will also be available for $5.00. All ages are welcome to attend the event.

Wick’s is located at 10966 Dixie Highway, Louisville, KY 40272. For more information, visit www.myspace.com/JeremySharfe.

Best Rock Stars to Throw Down With on a Saturday Night

By: Stella | February 3rd, 2010 | Category: Hilariousness - Music

For most squares who toil through the standard work week, Saturday night is the time to let it all hang out, sometimes even declaring shenanigans early in the day. While it is usually easy to find some fellow degenerates to willingly participate in a little debauchery, there are some nights when we may need a wild card. What better way to spice it up than to throw down with a real life rock star? These six mad caps from the past 40 years would be a blast to hang out with any Saturday night….just make sure you don’t have any plans for Sunday morning.

Keith Richards/Mick Jagger

The two Rolling Stones lynch pins are a package deal, as they have been rocking out almost twice as long as I have been alive. Anyone who claims that the fast life leads to a fast death must justify how these two are still alive and kicking. Proving that good health is just a state of mind, this aging duo would still be dynamite entertainment. Being drank under the table by a 66-year old man is something that has never happened to me, but I would love to go down swinging with Mick.
Best song of theirs to karaoke together: Honky tonk woman

Age is only a number on the road to desecration.

Age is only a number on the road to desecration.

Jim Morrison
Although Morrison fell victim to the curse of 27, there is little doubt he would still be quite the rambler if alive today. Morrison’s famous poetry and songwriting would be quite the mind trip while scarfing down a pizza together at 3AM.
Best song of his to karaoke together: Alabama Song (whisky bar)

Ted Nugent
While the Nuge isn’t quite the musical legend of the first two on the list, he would still be good for some solid stories come Monday. After rocking out with the Amboy Dukes all those years, the Motor City Madman is now a DARE spokeman (that is not a joke), meaning there is no cooler designated driver on the planet. His sobreity would not be a problem, as he would also provide quality entertainment while talking politics.
Best song of his to karaoke together: Stranglehold

Steven Tyler
The Aerosmith lead man has been on and off the wagon so many times, it’s hard to tell which version of him you may get on a Saturday night. Who cares? They’re all awesome. Tyler has been rocking for four decades, so who am I to tell him that he should take his foot off the gas? Bottoms up, bro! Maybe he will show me his sweet microphone stand straddle.
Best song of his to karaoke together: Rag doll

1 Saturday night w/Steven Tyler = 4 years off life. For you, not him.

Axl Rose
You would need to bring your ‘A’ game to roll with Rose, as the night is most likely going to end in some sort of dispute, possibly between you and him. Notorious for his crazy antics, there is no doubt Rose would bring the pain. It is recommended before you all go out in public to listen to the entire ‘Appetite for Destruction’ album and slap each other across the face.

Eminem Responds to Mariah Carey with Warning “Diss”

By: nickev | July 31st, 2009 | Category: Music - Videos

If you are Mariah Carey, why are you going to try to diss Marshall Mathers in some R&B song?  All you are doing is opening the doors for Eminem to do what he does.  You don’t get in a dissing contest with Slim Shady. Once you start, you know he is going to finish, and you are going to get crushed.

Be careful with Marshall’s, the lyrics are obviously not safe for the work environment.

Chris Knight To Release Trailer II

By: Carl H | July 25th, 2009 | Category: Music

The awesomest human alive will be releasing his seventh album, Trailer II, on August 15th! You can preorder the album now — HERE — and with your order you will be able to immediately download all 12 tracks! This is the second installment of recordings that C. Knight laid down back in the summer of 1996, just himself and a microphone in his trailer just outside Slaughters, Kentucky.

2007’s The Trailer Tapes would become one of the best-selling and acclaimed albums of Knight’s entire career. Critics hailed it as everything from “as stark and brutally honest as Springsteen’s Nebraska” (The Philadelphia Enquirer) to “the sound of Hank Williams with a gun and a Vicodin ‘script” (The Houston Press). “Chris Knight’s not-to-be-missed Trailer Tapes lets nothing get in the way of a great singer and his songs,” wrote Ben Sisario in The New York Daily News. “This is a record no lover of great American music should miss.”

Trailer II is far more than just a sequel to The Trailer Tapes. Where the majority of the first album were songs that had never appeared on any subsequent Knight disc, Trailer II features original versions of what would become many of Chris’ most popular tracks. Songs like “It Ain’t Easy Being Me”, “Love And A .45″, “Send A Boat” and “The River’s Own” crackle with the unprocessed honesty of a young singer/songwriter finding – and delivering – his own startling voice. “In a sense, this record is the second part of a classic field recording,” says producer Frank Liddell. “It’s the rest of the story of a place in time where you first hear one of the most truthful artists in music today.”

“I think I was hard on myself when it came to putting together Trailer II,” Chris admits. “I’ve been playing most of these songs every night on the road for the past 12 years. I know I sing them way different now than when I did then. What you’re hearing is a guy who had written those songs at his kitchen table and barely knew how to sing them into a microphone. Still,” he says, “there are moments where I can hear the beginning of what I do now.”

There are three songs on Trailer II that have never appeared on Knight’s previous six albums: “I’ll Be There,” “Speeding Train,” and “Till My Leavin’s Through.” Visit Chris’ official site HERE.

Heart Like Memphis – The Carter Twins

By: Carl H | April 1st, 2009 | Category: Music - Videos

This video should serve several purposes.

1) There is a slight tie-in with all the hoopla goin’ on recently: The name of the song is “Heart Like Memphis”

2) Lauren Jenkins — the girl — uh, YUMP!!!

3) Lauren Jenkins — this just goes to show that I should’ve gotten my @$$ in gear and learned how to play the guitar many, many years ago as was the plan. It’s just this easy to pull hot chicks….
