Falls City Beer – Indiana Launch Party

By: nickev | September 1st, 2010 | Category: Entertainment

Falls City Beer is delicious, a Louisville tradition and is now available in Floyd and Clark Counties in Indiana.

To celebrate the expansion, Rocky’s Sub Pub is throwing a party at their Restaurant overlooking Downtown Louisville near the Falls of the Ohio (where Louisville picked up the moniker Falls City) Wednesday, September 1, 2010. Join the Falls City gang for this historical moment in the rebirth of a true Louisville Original overlooking the birthplace of Falls City Beer.

The “All New” Falls City Beer is a recreation of the classic English-style Pale Ale recipe brewed here in the 1930s.

The party starts at 5:00 p.m. at Rocky’s, so head on over after you get off work and enjoy a delicious Falls City Beer this Hump Day.

If you can’t make it to the party on Wednesday, just make sure you check out Falls City sometime soon, because it is what Louisvillians are supposed to drink. Falls City Beer is now available at the Irish Rover, Third Street Drive, Flanagan’s Ale House, O’Shea’s, Patrick O’Shea’s, Buckhead’s, both Molly Malone’s and other local establishments

Lashawn ‘Sugar Shizz’ Talbert, Creator of “The Shizz” aka “The John Wall Dance” Dies

By: Carl H | August 23rd, 2010 | Category: Entertainment

Some sad news today from over the weekend, as Lashawn ‘Sugar Shizz’ Talbert passed away on Saturday at University Hospital. Talbert was shot in the head while sitting in a car in Okolona this past Wednesday. Local rapper Kenzo, put the dance to a beat and inspired a dance phenomenon that was adopted by the University of Kentucky’s John Wall – propelling the dance to national prominence. (Including being featured on ESPN Gameday).

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family. Police have not named any suspects in the shooting, so if anyone has any information on the shooting please contact the LMPD. You can make an anonymous call to 574-5673.

Mr. Belding to Make an Appearance at Sully’s Tonight

By: nickev | August 19th, 2010 | Category: Entertainment

Mr. Belding, aka Dennis Haskins, will be making an appearance at Sully’s tonight, starting at 9 PM, for the Saved by the Booze Party. We recommend you stop on by, drink a few, and be like Zack and give Mr. Belding the old heave-ho.

Rumor has it he is planning on getting blacked out hammered drunk. Remember, Mr. Belding was hilarious on Saved by the Bell, and I would dare to see he was sober while shooting that show at least 35-percent of the time. Just think how hilarious this man will be hammered out of his mind.

I mean, Mr. Belding is coming to Sully’s to have the time of his life. He doesn’t care about the repercussions. He’s the principal. Whose going to send the principal to detention? So look for Mr. Belding to make out with the biggest girl at Sully’s tomorrow night. Big girls pucker up.

Is he Joe Westin’ tonight? Hell yeah, he’s going strait javelin toss. Read up on our ‘Joe West Going Out Chart’ by clicking here.

Go to Sully’s tonight and start your weekend off a day early with Mr. Belding for the Saved by the Booze party. Do it.

If all of the above is not reason enough. The Pinkie Squad will be there. Mr. Belding and the Pinkie Squad. Ladies, you don’t want to miss this opportunity. I promise.

Did you know Mr. Belding sang, “Piano Man”? He does when he’s hammered.

Did you know Mr. Belding did stand-up comedy? He does.

PIZZA, PILSNERS & PUTTS – At “Caddy Shack Pizza”

By: Reggie P | July 28th, 2010 | Category: Entertainment -Sports

Formerly known as “Shooters”, “Caddy Shack Pizza” is the professionals’ playground for Southwest (Valley Station, PRP & Shively) Louisville, KY! Caddy Shack Pizza is still ran by Larry Davis; who got his start in pizza and just happened to like golf.

Caddy Shack Pizza boasts 4-6 virtual golf courses, a front social/ smoking deck, digital dart boards, pool tables and arcade games, which are spread throughout this mature playground. At Caddy Shack Pizza, you will also find a menu that gives Wick’s Pizza a run for their money! The Owner’s favorite pizza selection is the “LOAD UP CHAMP”. This slice of pizza paradise is one-and-a-half inches thick, has over ten, yeah 10 toppings! Sausage, Pepperoni, Black Olives, Green Olives, Green Peppers, two cheeses, homemade tomamto sauce…and the list just keeps going!

Not only is the pizza good…the people who run this mighty pizza-making joint aren’t that bad either. When I visited Larry’s – Caddy Shack Pizza, I was greeted with smiles and warm welcomes. The people you see working at Caddy Shack Pizza are the same people you’ll see grocery shopping at Kroger on Sunday morning, hustling through the isles of Super Walmart, drinking a beer at Pit Stop liquors (Greenwood Road) or discussing the next PRP High School sports star.

The Caddy Shack Pizza team is made up of people who you grew up with that will treat you with the respect that you won’t find many other places around town.

So, the next time you have a taste for a good ole’ slice of pizza, drop by Caddy Shack Pizza. They’ll make sure you get your belly full and they definitely make sure you’ll have fun in the process!

Pubs – Perfect Place for Suds and Grub…without the Club

By: Reggie P | July 26th, 2010 | Category: Entertainment

Bar, tavern, saloon, beer-gardening, drinking-hole…are all different names for a pub. Dating back to the pub’s early forms known as a “Public House” in many parts of Europe, the pub has always been a community based establishment that served its patrons suds and grub.

Some pubs offered lodging and adult entertainment for its customers: before during and after hours. “rum-runners” would often use pubs as a truck stop, so-to-speak, when making long distance runs during the prohibition era. In exchange for a hideout; the “rum-runner” would offer the pub wwner a case or two of the booz he was running in exchange for a little rest and relaxation from the law!

As most modern drinking establishments, pubs had to adhere to strict laws and often “bucked” the system when inspectors visited the premises. According to a forklore website, one pub was being inspected; the owner of the pub knew he would fail the inspection so he got the inspector drunk, gave him a room and the inspector got fired for not returning to work. The next day the inspector was bartending for the pub!

Speaking of bartending…most pubs have one bartender, who is usually second in command and well known by patrons, and a few waitors or waitresses. Pubs most often have a diverse food menu that is complimentary to the alcohol that they serve.

Some things never get old. Some things rarely change and for the pub this is an absolute truth!

In Louisville, KY, pubs are becoming more popular than ever. Hell, Baxter avenue has over six pubs in a three block area.

For my generation, the club scene is not so cool anymore. The pub is where it’s at. You can take a buddy, your girl/boy friend or even family. Enjoy some unique brew and or liquors, listen to soft music (in some cases, live-bands) all while chowing down on a good meal! I’ve listed some of my favorite pubs here in Louisville, KY. The rest is up to you.

From me to Da’Ville!

Reggie P’s Favorite Pubs:

1. R Place Pub/ 9603 Whipps Mill Rd./ Louisville, KY / 502-425-8516
2. Pub Louisville/ 412 S. 4th Street/ Louisville, KY / 502-569-7782
3. Diamond Pub & Billiards/ 3814 Frankfort Ave./ Louisville, KY / 502-895-7513
4. RiRa Irish Pub / 445 South 4th Street / Louisville, KY / 502-587-1825
